[Class 135] A gas governor has the load on the governor valve varied by movement of a member along the balance arm of the governor effected under the control of clockwork mechanism. The Figure shows the invention applied to an auxiliary gas governor which is arranged to vary the loading of a main governor which latter controls the pressure in a gas main. The spindle 2 of the governor 1 is loaded by a lever 4 carrying a normally fixed weight 6 and a movable weight 8, the latter being mounted on a trolley 9 running on a track rail 10 secured to the lever. The trolley has an apertured lug 11a engaged by a pin 11 carried on a flexible stainless steel tape 12 stretched between a pair of coupled quadrants 13, 14 so that rotation of the quadrants causes a rectilinear displacement of the weight. A drum 18 adjustably secured to the quadrant 14 is wrapped about by a wire 19 attached at vertically spaced points 20, 21 to a sliding rod 22. This rod is depressed from time to time by the engagement of one or other of the rods 24, 25 with a collar 32. The rods are pivoted to bell-crank levers oscillated by clock driven cams rotating once in 24 hours and the particular rod in service is selected by clock driven cams 33 rotated once a week. In lieu of the two quadrant members there may be used a gear wheel or segment meshing with a horizontally slidable rack connected to the trolley. In a modification, the rod 22 is coupled to the trolley by a Bowden wire. In a further modification, the weight is fixed and the fulcrum of the lever adjusted by the movement of the rod 22 acting directly or through a bell - crank lever.
