Abstract
1478011 Clip for holding down railway rail PANDROL Ltd HIGHVELD STEEL and VANADIUM CORP Ltd 2 Sept 1974 [6 June 1973] 27084/73 Heading C7A A clip, suitable for holding down a railway rail, e.g. of the form disclosed or claimed in British patents 861473, 1078709 or 1213762, is made of a silico-manganese steel containing:- C at least 0À5% (e.g. 0À5-0À7%) Mn up to 1À4% (e.g. 0À5-1À4%) Si up to 2À2% (e.g. 1À4-2À2%) V more than 0À03% (e.g. 0À05-0À35%), the balance, apart from impurities, being Fe. Impurities specified in examples are 0À13% Cr, 0À15% Cu, 0À14% Ni, 0À012% P and 0À005% S. The steel may be heated to 1250‹C and hot-rolled, reheated to 850-950‹C, quenched and tempered at 400-700‹C. Alternatively the steel may be heated to 1150-1250‹C, cooled to 1000‹C rolled in stages as it cools to 850‹C, allowed to cool and tempered at 400-700‹C.
