1472351 Tumbler dryer A MEYER 27 March 1975 [3 April 1974] 12823/75 Heading F4G An apparatus for drying washing comprises a housing 1 containing a horizontally mounted rotatable drum 2 which is air-permeable, a blower 12 which provides approximately radial air flow through the drum, a heater 5 for the air, an exhaust air duct 13, an aperture 14 in the front of the drum closable by a door 17, and an aperture 32 in the back of the drum connected directly to a blower, e.g. the blower 12 or a second blower (26), Fig. 2 (not shown), for delivering an axial air flow through the drum, e.g. to assist unloading on the operation of a flap 19 which is movable to a position 19<SP>1</SP>. In Fig. 2, the flap 19 is omitted, and the axially moving air is exhausted through ports (28 . . . 30). It is stated that the axial air flow may be switched on automatically.
