[Class 34(ii)] A laundry drying machine has a perforated tumbler cylinder 25 rotatably mounted within a casing 26 and supplied through an inlet 27 with hot or cold air, or a mixture thereof, from passages 36 and 37 respectively. Perforated valve partitions 40 and 41 separate the passages 36 and 37, and have between them a valve structure comprising damper plates 47 and 48 secured to a shaft 43 by arms 45. These plates may be resiliently seated against the partitions at either end of their movement, this movement being controlled hydraulically by a piston rod 64, piston 65 and cylinder 66, pivoted at 68. In the position shown, Fig. 5, air is drawn through screens 75 by fans 77 and passes through the steam pipe heating passage 36, downwardly through the cylinder and outlet 28, through a lint removing device 82, to an exhaust 80. With the damper in the opposite direction, cold air is drawn through an inlet 69 and downwardly through the cylinder. The cylinder 25 has door sections 34 arranged to register with a casing door 30. The valve, door 30, and the cylinder drive are operated automatically in sequence from a control box, such that the cylinder is rotated alternatively in opposite directions for pre-determined periods, the hot air stream being followed by a cold air stream, after which the door 30 is opened hydraulically. thus opening an electrical door switch and breaking the supply to the cylinder driving motor. Doors 30 and 34 may be brought into co-operation by an inching device. The apparatus also includes timing devices for the hot and cold air streams, control switches and indicating lamps. The fan motor control is independent of the cylinder motor, door, and damper operations. An embodiment is described in which the air is recirculated.
