Abstract
1467294 Steam irons GENERAL ELECTRIC CO 29 April 1974 [7 May 1973] 18727/ 74 Heading D1A A steam iron combines flash boiler and flooded boiler operation. The control valve stem for water metering has an end pin 46 which enters a sized passage to provide low rate feed for flash boiler operation. When the pin is out more water flows and floods the boiler for wet steam operation. Steam is carried from the boiler 20 to the upper part of the water tank 22 via the pressure equalizing pipe 40. At the top is a horizontal baffle 48 to make the water mixed with the steam drop back into the water tank. The steam then passes along a diverging pipe 50, which acts as a megaphone, to produce a "steam noise", and emerges via passages 52 and ports 34 in the sole plate, or elsewhere. An alterntive embodiment employs separate pipes 40, 54, Fig. 2.
