Abstract

1467261 Sliver feed in carding engines CROSROL Ltd 21 Oct 1974 [24 Oct 1973] 49660/73 Headings DID and DIN In a carding engine means 10 feed a web W to spaced pairs of drafting rollers 12, 12a; 13, 13a followed by a pair of measuring rollers 21, 22, a trumpet element 19 closely fitting in the space between the measuring rollers and the drafting rollers, means being provided to removably locate it in this position. The measuring rollers comprise a pair of tongue and grooved rollers 21, 22 for sensing variations in the sliver thickness which control the operation of the machine to improve the uniformity of the sliver, Upper rollers 12, 13 are mounted on arms 14, 14a and are weighted by spring plungers 18 which bear on a pressure bar 16. Pressure bar 16 can be released to allow access. Trumpet element 19 is mounted on a pivoted arm 25 to allow its removal in a direction parallel to the roller axes. The first roller pair 12, 12a is mounted in an adjustable gear box 15c which can be pivoted about axle 15d to allow increase of the distance between the roller pairs to suit the fibre staple length. Lower roller scrapers 26a, 26c are held in position by a lever arm 26 which in the event of a lap up moves to operate a stop motion. Arm 26 is also pivotal about a bar 27 to allow access to the scrapers and lower rollers. A feeler 29 detects the presence of a sliver and in its absence operates a stop motion. The sliver evening control arrangement may be as described in Specification No. 1277581.
