Abstract
1467039 Making heat absorption and/or radiation panels J C O'CONNELL 22 May 1975 [31 May 1974] 24276/74 Heading B3A [Also in Division F4] A heat absorption and/or radiation panel is produced by a method comprising the steps of supporting a deformable sheet 10 of heat insulating material (e.g. polyurethane foam) on a rigid backing 17 (e.g. mild steel plate), applying a pliable sheet 13 of metal (e.g. aluminium or copper foil) to the sheet 10, pressing metal piping 14 (e.g. of copper) for a fluid to be heated or cooled against the sheet 13 so as to deform both the sheets 13 and 10, and clamping the piping 14 to the rigid backing 17 (e.g. by means of an aluminium channel section member 15, screws 16 and nuts 18) so as to maintain the piping in intimate heat conducting contact with the pliable metal sheet 13. The figure shows a heat absorption panel for a solar cell. Grooves 11 in polyurethane foam sheet 10 are of smaller radius than copper piping 14. The piping 14 is connected to a water storage tank (not shown) via a manifold. Before being clamped in position, the aluminium foil may be anodized or the copper foil blackened. Planar surfaces may have been provided on the tubes by pressing them against a rigid planar surface.
