Abstract

A solar heating system has heat collector units with heat absorber plate (1) made of aluminium or copper or one of their alloys, with a coating (7) of carbon black on its upper face. This rests on a water circulating coil (4) which may be supported on insulation (11) under a transparent sheet (10). The whole is enclosed under another window (9) inside a casing (8) which has been evacuated and filled with a neutral gas such as nitrogen at atmospheric pressure. The layer of carbon black is less than one micron thick and the plate (1) is polished before the layer is chemically applied. The method and apparatus for applying the layer is described in detail.
