Abstract

1466181 Bottle sorting H DATZ F SEHRT and W KAMMER 25 Feb 1974 [23 Feb 1973] 8405/74 Heading G1A In a device for detecting foreign bodies &c. in bottles, the bottles are fed in sequence by means of a feed screw 1 and an entry starwheel 2 on to recesses in a revolving table 31. Each recess has a photo-electric system, Fig. 3, associated with it wherein a light beam from a source 32 is directed via a lens 33 and an aperture 34, at an acute angle to the axis of the bottle, on to the base of the bottle as shown. As the bottle rotates, due to its support by rollers 3 (5) Fig. 2 (not shown) and its contact with a tensioned "V" belt 6 as the table 31 rotates, the whole of the base of the bottle can be scanned by an associated photo-cell 30. If the photo-cell's output decreases below a predetermined threshold, a warning light (9) Fig. 5 (not shown) is lit which will activate a further photoelectric system 100 also Fig. 6 (not shown). The further photo-electric system is associated with the discharge star wheel 13, and controls a clamp arrangement that prevents bottles with impurities from going on to the acceptable bottle conveyer belt 14 and places them on to the reject bottle conveyer belt 16. The description also refers to an additional photo-electric system, inspecting the mouth area of the bottle, which can be used in conjunction with the bottle base inspection.
