Abstract
1296784 Photoelectric bottle inspection H KRONSEDER 1 May 1970 [2 May 1969] 21108/70 Heading G1A [Also in Division B8] A bottle inspection apparatus in which the bottles 3 are guided by a starwheel 5 is provided with at least two inspection devices 6, 7, 42 adapted to actuate a common means for rejecting faulty bottles. The device 6 is a lip inspection device in which a reflected image of the bottle lip is reflected by a rotating prism to a photo-cell, which produces a reject signal if the reflected image is uneven. In the wall inspection device 42 a single light source 39 produces three light beams 9 incident on photo-cells 10. After passing through each beam, each bottle is rotated by a friction pad 14 so that the entire angular extent of the sidewall is inspected. Finally, the bottles pass through a bottom inspection device 7, Fig. 8 (not shown). In this device a light source projects light through a diffusing screen (45) located below the bottle, and the light received through the open bottle top is focused (46) on to a rotating scanner (47), after which it is received on a photo-detector (10). A reject signal from any inspection device produced by a particular bottle actuates a cam mechanism of the station holding that bottle. Thus, when the defective bottle is fed to an output starwheel 11, a further cam mechanism is operated which releases the bottle along a defect path 12, unblemished bottles being released along the path 13.
