Abstract

1309738 Sorting bottles DAWSON & BARFOS Ltd 10 July 1970 [12 July 1969] 35221/69 Heading G1A In an arrangement for sorting a series of glass bottles in which a light beam is directed through the material forming the base of the bottle and in a direction parallel to the base of the bottle onto photo-sensitive means, whereby different signals from the photo-sensitive means due to different colours can be used for sorting the bottles. In an embodiment glass bottles of two differing colours 10 and 12, Fig.2, are fed into an infeed startwheel 16. The bottles then pass on to a main startwheel 20 where the bottles are sensed for sorting purposes so that each bottle can be directed to a conveyor 22 or a further conveyor 24 depending on its colour. The sensing arrangement comprises a light source 40 and a photo- electric detector 42, Fig.2, with the startwheel 20 carrying a suitably placed inclined mirror 44, for each bottle, as shown, which directs the light beam via an aperture 46 into the base of the bottle being sensed. The output of the photo-electric detector 42 is used to sort the bottles and to direct the bottles to a suitable conveyor.
