Abstract
1462803 Railway vehicle couplings GERMANY MINISTRY OF TRANSPORT 20 March 1974 [18 April 1973] 12406/74 Heading B7T An automatic central buffer railway coupling head 1 comprising a traction claw 4 and a buffing claw 3 has a forwardly facing surface 7 of the buffing claw 3 oblique with respect to a recessed abutment surface 9 of the head 1, the arrangement being such that when the coupling head 1 is coupled with a similar counter-coupling head 2 and the coupling heads 1, 2 are moved towards one another in the direction of the longitudinal axis A-A of the coupling heads, the buffing claw 3 and the recessed abutment surface 10 of the head 2 have line contact at a vertically extending edge 15<SP>1</SP>. The construction according to the invention is intended to reduce the stresses on the cross-section 5 of head 1 caused by buffing forces. As illustrated, the buffing claw 3 of the coupling head 1 has a side surface 17 oblique with respect to a side surface 11 of the coupling head 1, the arrangement being such that lateral movements of the head 1 relative to the similar counter-coupling head 2 can produce line contact of the buffer claw 3 with the side surface 12 of the head 2 at a vertically extending edge 15.
