Abstract

260,580. K³rtossy, L. Oct. 28, 1925, [Convention date]. Couplings, automatic.-In the central buffer coupling described in the Specification 245,116 in which the buffer surfaces are provided with two diametrically-opposed projections Vo, Vu, shown in elevation and plan in Figs. 1<a>, 1<b> respectively, formed by the guiding surfaces, the guiding surface S which guides in the lateral direction and is inclined to the vertical longitudinal central plane L1-L1, extends on each side of that plane and over the entire height of the upper half of the head and forms the upper projection Vo, a rib or projection N being formed on this surface, the lower projection Va being formed by a guiding surface l inclined to the said plane and by a guiding surface h inclined to the horizontal longitudinal central plane L1-L2, the two latter guiding surfaces only extending to the latter plane of the head. The connection between the surfaces h and S is a horizontal surface n, and additional guiding surfaces in the form of projection t1, t2 may be provided on the projection Vo. The surface S is stepped to form a projection N and a recess A, Fig. 3b, which interlock with corresponding surfaces on the opposing coupler, and transmit, when the couplers are locked, a portion of the tractive effort. A locking bolt B, Fig. 3<b>. is housed in each coupler head and a recess F for the head of the opposing coupler bolt is made in a lug D on the side of the coupler opposite the bolt B. The guiding surfaces may be increased, as shown in front and side elevation Figs. 4a, 4<c> respectively, by tapering the underside of the projection Vc, by a surface f1 and making a corresponding inclined surface f2 in place of the horizontal surface n. The surface l of the projection Vu may be reduced to one-half as shown in Fig. 4<a>, without impairing its guiding capacity and in a modification both surfaces h and l may be reduced as shown in dotted lines at h1, l1, so that it takes the form of a projecting bar. In this case the surface S is not reduced by the surfaces f1, f2 but has an equivalent guiding surface projecting from the lower end of the projection Vo. Specification 244,588 also is referred to.
