' nHAE'r-YCKE.
draft yoke forrailway car draft rigging of strong andsimple construction, the invention herein disclosed being an improvement upon my invention for which Patent No. 1,038,758 was issued by the United `States Patent Office on the 17th day of Septemper, 1912.
-In the drawings forming apart of this specification Figure 1 is a side elevation partly in vertical longitudinal section on line 1-1 of Fig. 2 of a draft yoke embodying my invention. Fig.' 2 is a plan view .partly in horizontal'section on line 2-2 of Fig. 1. Fig-.3 is a perspective view of one of the free ends of the. yoke strap.
In the drawings 4 represents a U-shaped yoke strap having upper and lower limbs 5 and 6 respectively, and a member .7 con- -necting the same at their rear end. In preferable construction within the yoke strap at its rear end there is provided a filler block 8 secured to the member 7 by means of the rivet 9. The forward end Of each limb of the yoke strap is provided with a laterally extended and outwardly turned head 10 of T-shape, forming a transverse shoulder 11 and shoulders 12, 12 at either side of each limb of the yoke strap.
13 represents a hollow yoke head or hood having an opening 14 therein adapted to receive a draw bar, the said yoke head being formed of lateral plates 15, 15, vand top and bottom plates 16,l and 17 respectively joining the same. The yoke head is also provided with slots 18, 18 through the lateral plates thereof to receive a. coupler key 19, which passes through the same and through the transverse opening 20 in the draw bar 21.
-In assembling the U-shaped yoke, the' strap 4 and the yoke head 13, I pass the said yoke strap' rearwardly through theopenmg 14 in the said head until the shoulders 11 Specicaton of Letters Patent.

of the upper and lower strap heads 10 engage the forward edges 22, 22 of the upper and lower plates 16 and 17 respectively of the yoke head, and the shoulders 12 of the strap head engage the front edges 23, 23 of the lateral plates 15 of the said yoke head. The limbs 5 and 6 of the yoke strap are suitably spaced apart to permit the reception between them of the draw bar 21 within the box-like opening 14 of the yoke head 13.
By referring to the drawing, it will be observed that the lateral or side plates 15 of the hollow yoke head are extended or provided with forwardly projecting wings 120, the upper and lower forward edges 121 and 122, respectively, of ysaid wings being suitably inclined to engage the inner faces 12` of the T shaped'heads 10 of the yoke strap, to thus prevent the forward ends of the yoke Wstrap from approaching each other under the strain of'pulling movement of the draw bar and binding the draw bar between the limbs of the yoke. It will also be noted that the side or lateral plates 15 are flared outwardly in order to provide suliicient clearance between -the draw bar and said plates to permit the draw bar to swing laterally or radially relatively to the yoke. -Y
` I Claim 1. In a yoke for draft rigging for 'railway cars, in combination, a yoke head adapted to be connected to a draw bar, and a yoke strap, said yoke strap being provided at each of its free ends with a T head en-v gaging the Ayoke head, the said yoke head having forwardly extended lateral plates adapted; to engage the inner faces of said 4 T heads. v
2. In a draft gear yoke, in combination, a hollow yoke head having top, bottom and side walls and open ends, the side walls being extended forwardly beyond the top and bottom walls, and a strap, the ends of said strap extending through the yoke. head, each end being widened and thickened to form a T head and a rearwardly facing transverse shoulder with the arms of the T head adapted to engage said extended portions of the side walls of the yoke head, and the said transverse shoulders abutting against the forward edges of the top and bottom walls of the yoke heartl 3. In a draft yoke, in combination, a U shaped loop having lateral projections at the ends of its side members', and ahollow, I
rectangular draw bar engaging member adapted to surround the draw bar and havl strap having its ends extended through the yoke head and being provided with lateral extensions bearing against the 4forward edges of the top and bottom walls of the yoke head and adapted to-engage the edges of the forwardly extended portions of the side walls of the yoke head.
5. A yoke for draft riggingsic'omprising a vU shaped strap having the ends of the arms thereof provided y with laterally exy tended shoulders and a hollow yoke head 6. A yoke for draft riggings comprising a hollow cast head adapted to be detachably connected witha draw bar, and a strap eX- tending through Qsaid hollow head, the arms of said strap having the free ends thereof provided with T heads arranged to engage the yoke head.
7 A yoke for draft riggings comprising .a U shaped strap, the free ends of the arms thereof being provided with laterally extended and transverse shoulders, and a hollow yoke head surrounding the yoke strap and having shoulders cooperating with said V lateral and transverse shoulders of the strap.
