1458003 Laminates AVON RUBBER CO Ltd 17 Dec 1973 [27 Sept 1972] 44602/72 Heading B5N A coated fabric suitable for use as a skirt for a hovercraft is produced by weaving a thermoplastic thread or yarn into a fabric, treating the yarn or thread, before or after weaving, by applying heat treatment thereto to soften the yarn or thread and tensioning to distort the filaments making it up to reduce its inter-filamentary spaces, applying adhesive to the fabric and applying a layer of elastomer to each face of the fabric. Tensioning may be effected by maintaining the unshrunk length of the thread or yarn of a heat-shrinking material during heat treatment or by applying a tensioning force so that the thread or yarn is stretched by 20% or more. Filaments may be of polyester, nylon 6 or nylon 66 and the elastomer layers applied by calendering.
