Abstract

1,206,974. Flock coating. DUNLOP CO. Ltd. 13 March, 1968 [16 March, 1967], No. 12367/ 67. Heading B2E. A method of producing flock-coated sheet material having an embossed pattern comprises coating a base sheet with an adhesive, depositing flock fibres onto the adhesive coated base sheet and then bringing the flock-coated base sheet into contact with an embossing roller before the adhesive is set to a flexible film. The base sheet may be of textile or of non- textile, e.g. rubber, material. The adhesive may be a natural or synthetic rubber adhesive or a cross-linkable polyurethane adhesive. The flock fibres may be of nylon, rayon or any other suitable fibre. The embossing roller may be a conventional solid roller having the desired pattern on its surface or a hollow cylinder constructed from wire mesh. The flock fibres are deposited on the adhesive-coated base sheet by utilising an electrostatic flocking apparatus. The embossed material may be passed through a heating zone where the adhesive is vulcanized. The process may be carried out successively to both sides of a base sheet.
