Abstract

1,274,314. Flock coated articles. DUNLOP HOLDINGS Ltd. 5 Feb., 1970 [7 Feb., 1969], No. 6662/69. Heading B2E. A flock coated article having a pile comprising crimped and non-crimped fibres is made by coating a base sheet with an adhesive, applying curled crimpable fibres to the adhesive coated sheet so as to leave exposed areas, applying substantially straight non-crimpable fibres to said exposed areas and then crimping the crimpable fibres, e.g. by heating which also serves to set the adhesive. The fibres may be applied by electrostatic or mechanical blocking. Patterns may be formed by positioning a stencil over the sheet prior to the application of the non-crimpable fibres, which may be of a different colour to the crimpable fibres, removing the stencil and applying further non crimpable fibres, which may be of a different colour, to the areas covered by the stencil. The base sheet may be a textile e.g. hessian, uncured rubber or a foam e.g. of polyurethane. The adhesive may be a plasticised polyvinyl chloride or a natural or synthetic rubber. The crimpable fibres may be heterofilaments based on a polyamide e.g. polyhexamethylene, adipamide/poly-e-caprolactam, a polyester e.g. polyethylene terephthalate, polyurethane, polyolefin or polyacrylonitrile. The non-crimpable fibres may be polyamide, polyester or polyvinylchloride. The flock coated article may be used as for carpets, upholstery and apparel.
