Abstract

A polyvinyl-chloride-coated article comprises a fabric base having a surface layer of polyvinyl chloride, the whole or localised areas of such layer having granules of plasticised polyvinyl chloride bonded thereto or embedded therein, with at least parts of said granules protruding from the surface of the layer to provide a frictional facing on the article. The granules may be applied without smoothing or applying pressure while the layer of P.V.C. is still tacky, and the whole then cured by heating. Additional layers may be provided over the granules. The process may produce articles of clothing e.g. gloves, and sheet materials e.g. floor coverings which may be felt, upholstery, furnishing and clothing fabrics. The first surface layer may be applied by dipping in a paste or plastisol of P.V.C. In an example a knitted cotton glove is pulled over a former and dipped in P.V.C. plastisol, P.V.C. granules are supplied to palm and fingers, and the whole is then cured.
