[Also in Division B2] A method of applying flock to selected areas of an adhesive coated base sheet comprises depositing a sparse layer of flock on the adhesive coated base sheet, positioning a template so as to define the selected areas and applying flock to the selected areas through the stencil. Flocking is preferably effected with an electrostatic flocking apparatus. The process may be repeated either using a different stencil or the same stencil displaced relatively to the base sheet. After removal of the stencil flocking may be applied to the remaining areas. Flock of different colours and/or different fibres may be used at different stages of the process. The product may be used as a carpet. A " sparse layer " is defined as a layer which is not as thick as a normal pile of a flock-coated carpet but which is thick enough to support a stencil. Specified flocks are of nylon and rayon. Specified backing sheets are of rubber. Polyurethane is specified as the adhesive.
