Abstract

1496891 Transfer printing process FABPRINT Ltd 9 Jan 1975 [15 Feb 1974 4 March 1974 21 June 1974 30 July 1974] 7100/74 9653/74 27778/74 and 33618/74 Heading B6C [Also in Division D1] Textile fabrics, as defined herein, are decorated by taking a flexible substrate having a removable layer thereon containing a dyestuff and/or pigment and a film-forming polymer which on heating becomes sufficiently adhesive to adhere under the effect of pressure to the fabric more strongly than the layer adheres to the flexible substrate; pressing the layer onto the fabric while heating, removing the flexible substrate to leave the layer adhered to the fabric, then subjecting the fabric to a heat treatment to fix the dyestuff and/or pigment on the fabric. Textile fabrics include any flexible substrate which needs to be decorated like a textile. Film-forming polymers exemplified are polyvinyl butyral, polyvinyl formal, polyvinyl acetate, polyvinyl alcohol, cellulose nitrate and ethyl cellulose. The heat treatment is preferably at 100-200‹ C. for up to 30 sees. The removable layer may also contain plasticizers, fixation assistants, cross-linking agents and acid catalysts.
