Abstract

A textile fabric is printed by being pressed into contact with a detachable layer (containing a colourant and a polymer) formed on a flexible substrate, the layer having been heated so that the polymer is rendered adhesive and the layer sticks to the fabric. The fabric and substrate are then separated so that the detachable layer remains secured to the fabric and the layer is then fixed to the fabric (pref. by heating) to form e.g. a printed pattern. The method may be used with synthetic or natural fibres. The method is quick and produces an accurate printed pattern which is well fixed in the fabric.
