Abstract

1,268,763. Finishing leather. LANKRO CHEMICALS GROUP Ltd., A. G. ILL, E. F. CHANDLEY and N. B. COTTRELL. 12 March, 1969 [12 March, 1968], No. 11881/68. Heading B2E. [Also in Divisions B5 and B6] A method of finishing leather comprises i) forming a laminate which comprises consecutively leather, a film of a coating composition and a -release sheet comprising a support coated with a silicone oil or polytetrafluorethylene and ii) removing the release sheet. The release sheet may be provided with at least one coating and placed in contact with the leather or alternately the leather may be coated and placed in contact with the release sheet. Pressure may be applied to promote adhesion and form the sandwich. The coatings may be applied by padding, brushing, spraying, rolling or curtain coating and may contain natural or synthetic polymers, e.g. proteins, vinyl or acrylic polymers, nitrocellulose or polyurethanes. A pattern may be applied to the leather by employing an embossed or printed release sheet or by applying pressure to the sandwich using a patterned roller or plate.
