[Also in Division B6] A mould of the relief surface of a pictorial work is produced by applying to the surface a layer of hardenable material (e.g. epoxy resin), followed by a layer of tightly woven fabric adapted to follow the contours of the surface of the work, a further layer of hardenable material and at least one further layer of reinforcing fabric of a more coarse texture than the tightly woven fabric, and separating the work and the mould only when the hardenable material has become partially hardened. A frame 18, Fig. 3, and a base 20 support a plate 11, bearing a pictorial work on its upper surface, fixed to the base by screws 22 engaging in bushes 14 in the rear of the plate. A uniform layer 23 of epoxy resin is applied (e.g. by brushing) followed by glass fibre fabric layer 24, a further resin coat and then a layer 25 of glass fibre fabric of more coarse texture. Further layers of fabric 26 alternating with other layers of resin are then applied. Frame 18 is closed by perforated lid 27, having apertures 28 which communicate with feed conduits 29, and channels 30 located opposite the most important elements of relief of the painting. Needles 31 are inserted into channels 30 to pierce the mould. The resin is then polymerized, the mould separated from the painted work, the needles withdrawn and the mould stoved. The mould is suitable for the vacuum forming of thermoplastic sheets which have been printed to provide a reproduction of the markings on the surface of the pictorial work. This process forms the subject-matter of Specification 1,161,991. The plate 11 which bears the pictorial work may comprise a painter's canvas backed by alternating layers of resin and reinforcing glass fibre fabric.
