Abstract

1298608 Laminates CLUETT PEABODY & CO Ltd 11 Dec 1970 [15 Dec 1969] 58977/70 Heading B5N [Also in Division D1] A laminated fabric web comprising at least two plies and in which adjacent plies are crosslink bonded to each other is compressively shrunk by passage between a moving, rigid, heated, substantially smooth surface 16 and a moving, resilient, substantially non-porous belt 19. In one embodiment, Fig. 3, the two ply laminate is simultaneously formed and compressively shrunk. Two plies 5, 5a are fed simultaneously into a compressive shrinking unit 15, a cross-linking adhesive having been applied to the ply 5a by a reservoir 23, a pick-up roll 24 and a transfer roll 25. The fabric may comprise a backing ply of knitted acetate continuous filaments and a face ply of wool or a mixture of acetate and viscose rayon spun fibres with or without a centre ply of polyurethane foam. The adhesive may be a polyurethane or acrylic cross-linking adhesive.
