Abstract
1453221 Self-closing closure F D BON 18 Jan 1974 [17 Sept 1973 19 Nov 1973] 02398/74 Addition to 1444624 Heading B8T A closure device for a container which includes a valve actuating aerosol container for liquid, paste or foam material comprises a cap 1, preferably made of plastics material, and having an integral wall portion 2, which defines a discharge duct 3 leading to a discharge orifice 4, a portion 6 of the wall portion 2 being flexible with the remainder being rigid, and a closure member 7 having a rigid portion 7a, which is held in a cavity 11 in the cap 1, and a flexible arm 7b located in a recess 16 in the cap 1, the arm 7b being biased towards a closed portion in which the arm 7b presses the flexible portion 6 against the rigid portion 5a of the wall portion 2 to close the orifice 4 characterized such that the container to which the closure is fitted is pressed or the closure is pressed to activate a dispensing valve of an aerosol container whereby contents enter the duct 3 thereby pressing part 6 of wall portion 2 to flex the arm 7b outwardly to discharge the contents through the orifice 4. The wall portion 2 includes internal threading (2a) Fig. 2 (not shown) for threadedly engaging the neck of the container. In another embodiment part 6 of the wall portion 2 may have a protrusion (13) which contacts the inside face of arm 7b and facilitates outward bending of the arm 7b when a pasty product is squeezed into the duct 3, Fig. 7 (not shown). Also arresting means such as two pairs of co-operating lugs 14 and 15 may be provided on the underside of arm 7b and on the top surface of part 6 of the wall portion 2 respectively for preventing the flexing of arm 7b outwardly to open the orifice 4. To disengage the lugs 14 from the lugs 15 an actuating nose 18 is lifted and in so doing a projection 16 abuts against an undersurface 17a thereby preventing portion 7a from being removed from the cavity 11.
