Abstract

1,059,574. Shoe cleaning devices; pad applicators; plug closures. FLEXILE METAL CO. Dec. 29, 1965 [Jan. 4, 1965], No. 245/65. Headings A4F, A4K and A4N. [Also in Division B8] A closure for a shoe cream container comprises an outer skirt 9 connected to a central disc 11 by an annular portion 10 which is hingedly connected to the skirt and disc so that the disc is movable from one stable position via an intermediate unstable position to a second stable position. The top 2 of the container has a hole sealed by a frangible membrane 3 and the closure is initially placed over a sponge 6 with the disc 11 in the position shown by the dashed lines. When the disc 11 is pushed downwards a spigot 12 ruptures the membrane 3 and the contents may be dispensed through a hole 8 in the sponge 6 on removing the closure. The closure, which may have a screw threaded skirt, is preferably made of polypropylene but polyethylene, natural or synthetic rubber may be used. In a modification, Fig. 5 (not shown) the closure forms a plug stopper which has a sealing skirt (29) adapted to be compressed against the inner wall of the container and to be released therefrom by manipulating a central lug (28).
