Producers.-A bituminous fuel producer is provided with a perforated vertical partition C above the combustion zone so that the incoming fuel is preheated by contact with streams of producer gas. After traversing the fuel, the gases escape through a series of outlets E to a condenser. The shell may be formed of reinforced concrete lined with firebrick, and a luting of sand &c. is provided between the casings.
