Abstract

1450867 Positive clutches ZAHNRADFABRIK FRIEDRICHSHAFEN AG 15 Feb 1974 [16 Feb 1973] 7024/74 Heading F2C In an electromagnetically operated positive clutch wherein energization of a stationary electromagnet 3 moves teeth 12 on an armature 20 axially into engagement with teeth 13 on a polepiece 4, the polepiece 4 has magnetically insulating rings 8, 9 separating magnetically conducting pole rings 5, 6, 7 and the armature 20 has magnetically conducting rings 10, 11 connected together by a plate 29 and radially separated by a magnetically insulating ring 14. In the clutch disengaged position the air gap between the armature ring 10 and polepiece 4 is smaller than the air gap between the armature ring 11 and polepiece 4. The plate 29 is flexible and the additional movement of the ring 11 into engagement with the polepiece 4 flexes the spring plate 29 to provide an additional engaging force between the clutch teeth. On de-energization of the electromagnet 3 the stress in the plate 29 initially moves the ring 11 away from the polepiece 4 whereafter rapid collapse of the magnetic flux permits a return spring 16 to complete clutch disengagement.
