Abstract

1450719 Pressing and vibrating wedge-shaped slabs CALIFORNIA CEMENT SHAKE CO Inc 1 Nov 1973 [2 Nov 1972 6 Nov 1972] 50773/73 Heading B5A A wedge-shaped cementitious slab is formed by casting a slurry into a mould having vertically disposed side walls 44a, 44b (Fig. 5) and a screen floor 44 inclined to the horizontal, the screen floor 44 is placed on a support that is vibrated horizontally in the direction of inclination of the screen floor, and excess water is squeezed from the slab. A. described to mould a wall slab or roof shingle, slurry is cast from a hopper 37 (Fig. 3) into the mould 29 with the screen floor inclined, the upper surface of the slurry being free to assume a horizontal position. A support 46 is vibrated as above while supporting the mould, which is then moved by an endless, perforated conveyer 57 beneath interconnected rollers 52 that apply increasing pressure to the slurry through a patterned plate 50 (Fig. 3) and plastics sheet 49, to squeeze water out into a trough 56 (Fig. 3). The plate 50 and mould wall portions 44b are removed and the slab scooped off the screen floor (see Fig. 8, not shown). The mould &c. is placed on a return conveyer 60. A further conveyer feeds the slab through an oven having radiating heat and air drying. The slurry comprises a mixture of Portland cement, perlite (volcanic glass powder), an aqueous mixture of glass fibre and cellulose (e.g. cardboard), slaked lime (e.g. quick lime, water and tallow), water, accelerator, colorant and an air-entraining agent; the mixture is claimed in the Divisional Specification 1,450,720. The slab has a striated and stepped surface.
