Abstract

1445388 Reciprocating pumps K-H THOMAS [trading as LANGEN & CO] 16 Oct 1973 [25 Oct 1972] 48099/73 Heading F1A A pump for supplying two circuits, e.g. for a motor vehicle, comprises opposed-acting pistons 7, 8 delivering through lines 16, 17 to circuits 15, 18, changeover valves 23, 25 responsive to the delivery line pressures being operated when a predetermined pressure is exceeded to connect the associated delivery line to the other delivery line via a respective by-pass line 21, 22, a valve 28 being responsive to the combined delivery line pressures to open a line 27 inter-connecting the pumping chambers 11, 12 when both delivery lines reach their predetermined pressures, thereby causing the pump to idle. Accumulators 19, 20 are provided. In Fig. 2 (not shown), for systems having one circuit of lower working pressure than the other, the changeover valve associated with the lower pressure circuit functions to isolate its associated circuit when it connects its delivery line to its by-pass line on reaching its predetermined pressure. In Fig. 3 (not shown), valve 28 is replaced by two valves in series responsive to the respective delivery line pressures, the pistons draw from separate reservoirs, and the changeover valves changeover the pumping chamber connections to the reservoirs when they are operated by the predetermined delivery pressures to connect the delivery lines to the by-pass lines.
