Abstract

1344798 Reciprocating pumps DEERE & CO 24 Oct 1972 [11 Nov 1971] 49027/72 Heading F1A A hydraulic control system for a variable displacement pump, 10, Fig.1, in which a piston 12 is reciprocated by an eccentric 18 in a drive chamber 16 and is returned by the pressure in an inlet line 22, the return stroke is limited to an extent determined by the pressure in the drive chamber which is controlled by a valve 46. In operation, when the valve 46 is as shown, pressure from a charge pump 32 is connected to the drive chamber 16 and also to the underside of piston 14 thereby preventing the pressure in line 22 from returning the piston, i.e. the pump goes out of stroke. When a hydraulic device 30 is put into operation there is a pressure drop in a supply line 24 and a pilot line 50 so that a spring 48 moves the valve 46 to the left to connect a line 20 to the reservoir. This reduces the pressure in the drive chamber 16 and on the underside of piston 14 so that pressure in the line 22 returns the piston and the pump feeds fluid to line 24 for as long as pressure in that line and the pilot line 50 is insufficient to overcome the force of the spring 48. In a second embodiment, Fig.2. (not shown), the control valve 46 is made responsive to load pressure in addition to the pressure in the line 24 by connecting pilot lines 70, 74 to a pilot line 68 which acts in opposition to the pilot line 50. A 3-way valve 66 has a central "off" position and two other positions in which fluid is fed and exhausted to operate a double-acting ram 52.
