Abstract

1440069 Sealing caps ITW Ltd 13 Dec 1973 [14 Dec 1972] 57834/72 Heading B8T A petrol tank cap assembly comprises a main body 10 and a diaphragm 20 which is held in the main body by two diametrically opposed lugs 16 which also act as securing means for the assembly. The diaphragm 20 is a one-piece, continuous, plastics moulding of uniform radial cross-section. A frusto-conical diaphragm wall 22 reduces radially in the direction away from the cap body 10 and joins an annular wall 24 and wall 26 which is also frusto-conical but reduces in the direction towards the cap body 10. A wall 28 abuts the under surface of the central wall 12 of the cap body 10. In operation the wall 24 is pressed against wall 12 and the wall 22 abuts the interior surfaca of the tank neck. A labyrinthine groove 30 is formed in the wall 28 and with a passage 32 constitutes an air vent through which petrol cannot leak at above a specified rate.
