Abstract

1477902 Composite closure cap ANCHOR HOCKING CORP 29 Aug 1974 [7 Sept 1973] 37804/74 Heading B8T A composite closure cap for sealing a container having a radially outwardly projecting bead at its rim consists of three parts: a sealing gasket 10; a circular sheet metal cover 4; and an annular plastics ring 5 having container engaging means 15. The sealing gasket 10 may be a flowed-in plastisol sealing liner. The metal cover 4 preferably includes a depressed central stacking panel 6 and an outer, downwardly facing, gasket receiving channel 7. The cover 4 includes an inner lacquer or other protective coating 12. In one modification, Fig. 4 (not shown), the container engaging means on the ring (22) are lugs (23). In another modification, Fig. 6 (not shown) an upwardly extending stacking and protective flange (27) is formed as an integral portion of the ring (28). In a further modification, Fig. 7 or 8 (not shown) a closure cap (31) has a metal cover (32) with a flat top surface so that the cover (32) may receive a safety seal or other form of paperboard liner (33). The plastics ring 5 is preferably moulded as one piece from an impact resistant resin such as polystyrene or polyethylene. Indicia may be provided on the metal cover.
