Abstract

1436634 Valved caps for tanks SOC DE DIFFUSION NEIMAN SA 7 May 1973 [19 May 1972] 21596/73 Heading B8T [Also in Division F2] A cap 1 for a tank filler pipe 8 has spring loaded valves to allow breathing in and out at differential pressures above pre-set values and is characterized by the outlet valve which consists of a spring loaded member with a gasket 10 which rests on the rim 9 of the tank filler pipe 8 and has a hub 2 which serves to locate a relatively movable ring 5. The hub 2 carries a lock housing, to the end of which is secured a collar 3. Also carried by the hub 2 is a ring 5 having an interrupted periphery which latches below cams 7 formed on the inner part of the rim of the tank filler pipe 8. A spring 6 applies a downward force which normally presses the gasket 10 against the rim 9 of the filler pipe 8. If the pressure inside the tank reaches a critical level (determined by the spring 6) it produces sufficient force to compress the spring 6 and lift the cap 1 off the filler pipe 8, allowing the gases to escape as shown by the arrows in Fig. 2. If the pressure in the tank falls below a critical level, the force on a ball 16 causes it to move downwards against the force of a spring 17 so opening the ball valve and allowing air to enter the tank via a passage 13, a chamber 12, an aperture 15 and channels on the upper face and in the bore of the ring 4. The ball and spring valve may be replaced by a resilient disc valve Figs. 5 and 6 (not shown) or a mushroom valve, Figs. 7 and 9 (not shown).
