Abstract

1346130 Valves M F FAHY and H W ROGERS 16 Jan 1973 [10 Jan 1973] 1310/73 Heading F2V A tyre inflation valve has a housing 19 adapted to be screwed into a valve stem 6, a piston 12 slidable in the housing and on a central tube 7, a spring 8 biasing the piston to a position in which it prevents flow from the stem to apertures 15 and a check valve 11 in the tube allowing inflation of a tyre. In use a dust cap 1 is removed, a lock nut 5 having a seal 9 is undone and the tyre is inflated with air passed down tube 7 and through the check valve 11. Pressure in the tyre in excess of that required and determined by spring 8 is relieved by movement of the piston against the spring loading to allow air to flow out of apertures 15 to atmosphere via chamber 18. When excess air has finished escaping the lock nut is tightened to maintain the tyre pressure in use.
