Abstract

1316178 Warning horns FALCON SAFETY PRODUCTS Inc 26 Nov 1970 [20 March 1970] 56209/70 Heading G5J A compressed gas operated horn, mounted on a container holding a compressed or liquefied gas, e.g. " Freon " (Trade Mark) is designed to be hand-held and operated by tilting the horn body 30 relative to the container to open valve 20, which consists of four small apertures 23, radially mounted on the circumference of stem 22, which is closed at its inner end by head 24. Interposed between head 24, stem 22, and container cap 14, is resilient gasket 26, which deforms on tilting the horn body to allow gas to escape from the container through apertures 23, stem 22, passage 391 into chamber 35. The horn body, made of a resilient plastics material, is mounted on stem 22 by means of thread 29 and flange 27, which prevents inadvertent removal of horn body 30, by engaging the lower annular shoulder portion of bevelled flange 27, and necessitating forcible removal of the horn body. The horn body 30, is moulded of plastics material having circular form at each end with a cap part or cover 31 closing one end. The horn body is formed with a flared trumpet 33, and throat 34 which is surrounded by four secondary chambers 35 separated by stiffening members (36, not shown). Exterior stiffening members 37, offset from internal webs 36, run lengthwise of trumpet portion 33. Cup-shaped resilient cover 31, engages in complementary ridge 30a and recess 30c to firmly hold at its periphery the thin metal or plastics diaphragm 40, which has a tiny bleed hole at its centre to relieve any pressure build-up caused by gas leaks.
