Abstract

1435417 Two-part coupling BENDIX CORP 25 March 1974 [26 March 1973 (2)] 13160/74 Heading H2E A multicontact hemaphoditic connector comprises identical interleaving insulating housings 1, 2; when opposed fingers 25 of one housing enter passages 40 of the other, projections 29 on each housing latch behind ribs 41 to enter openings 28 on the other on complete engagement. Each passage 40 carries a sheet metal contact 10 inserted from rear face 22 through constriction 23 with flat-part 11 between the lips of slot 27, until flange 14 abuts shoulder 24; slight rearward movement then engages end 7 in recess 33, retaining the contact unless released by a tool from the front. Flanges 14, 16, 18 are suitable for crimping to a wire (not shown). On engagement, contact surfaces 12 mate, forcing bow 6 back against flat 11 and causing end 7 to move away from flat 11, so enhancing retention.
