Abstract

1340169 Two part couplings AMP Inc 17 April 1972 [27 April 1971] 17660/72 Heading H2E A socket for co-operating with contact pins 14 projecting from the hermetically sealed enclosure of a refrigerator motor comprises a unitary moulded plastics body (Fig. 5) having contacts located in three parallel passages. Each contact 1 comprises a channel-shaped portion 4. The mating pin 14 enters through a slot 8 in the base of the channel in line with a hole 9 in the body. Tongues extending from the ends of the slot have concave ends 13 which engage the pin 14 and are upturned to make insertion easier than withdrawal. Portions 11 of the channel walls have curved parts 15 which also engage the pin 14. Crimp and insulationsupport ferrules 5 and 6 are provided. In assembly, ears 16 guide the contact 1 into the body, and those ears 16 at the front end are deflected inwards by ramps 20 and latch behind shoulders 19, while the end of the contact 1 engages stops 17.
