Abstract

1330340 Two part couplings YAZAKI CORP 8 Dec 1970 [8 Dec 1969 (2) 21 Jan 1970] 58346/70 Heading H2E A multi-terminal connector assembly comprises two identical connectors each comprising a male portion A2 and a female portion A1 integrally formed of insulating material, the two portions each having a base-plate 6 with partitions 7 and the female portion having additionally a side wall 6<SP>1</SP>; both portions housing identical terminal plates B and there being a space between the male and female portions in each connector for receiving the base-plate of the female portion of the other connector on mating the two connectors. Each terminal plate B is secured in a cavity R, formed by the partitions 7, by wings 4 seated in grooves 8 in the partitions and a projection 3 engaging a channel 10 in the base-plate 5. For interconnection of two connectors, one is inverted and the complementary mole and female portions are interfitted, with the contact faces 2 of the respective terminals engaging each other and a hook 14 resiliently supported at 13 over a cut-out portion 12 of the wall 6<SP>1</SP> latching over a projection 15 formed on the base-plate of the male portion. The terminal plate has crimping members 1b for securing a wire 5 and a raised lug 1a for engaging the conductor of the wire. The partitions 7 may have protuberances extending along their upper edges to bear against the respective partitions of a mated connector to form a closed cavities R for the respective terminal plates. In another embodiment the hook 14 is replaced by a bridge-shaped portion which is deformed upwardly as a projection similar to the projection 15 passes under it to be latched beyond.
