Abstract
1472225 Two-part couplings AMP Inc 8 July 1974 [18 July 1973] 30101/74 Heading H2E A zero insertion force connector comprises one-piece, integrally moulded plastics, male and female housings 10, 42 respectively, the male housing having an arcuate cam follower surface 28, a latching flange 32 and rigid, passive contact pins 38, and the female housing 42 having resilient contacts 58 and a cam member 78 retained by a latch 74 in groove 88, the cam surface (96, Fig. 6, not shown) being provided on the nose 94 of member 78 such that when the male and female housings are brought together, rotation of the cam surface (effected by rotating lever 86) over surface 28 laterally shifts the housings perpendicular to the rotation axis and brings together contacts 38, 58. At the rear of the female housing is a shroud 46 acting as a cable clamp and at the front is a hood 54 defining a preferably polarized opening for receiving body 16. After rotation of the cam shaft, the housings are locked together by engagement of latching shoulder 104 behind flange 32 and a projection (98, Fig. 6, not shown) on the cam member 78 behind shoulder 30.
