LAMPENFABRIEKEN NV 26 Feb 1974 [13 March 1973] 8577/74 Heading F4S A heat exchanger comprises a plurality of generally planar tube panels 1 each comprising fluid-carrying tubes (e.g. flat rectangular tubes 4) extending between headers (5, 6, Fig. 2) with heat transfer fins (7) spanning the spaces between adjacent tubes and forming passages 10 for air flowing over the tubes, the thickness of the panel (i.e. the length of the air passages 10) being not more than 25 mm., the hydraulic diameter h d (defined in the Specification) being smaller than 2 mm., and the ratio l/d h being <25, the panels being interconnected as shown so that their two edges which are parallel to the tubes lie in first and second planes common to all the panels and relative to which each panel lies in a plane at an angle a greater than 45 degrees and wherein adjacent panels are interconnected, e.g. at 8 and 9, and wherein all the panels at their edges adjacent the tube ends lie in third and fourth planes common to all the panels. A layer of metal gauze may be arranged as a screen (acting also as additional heat transfer surface) over the front face of each panel (i.e. facing the direction A of air flow). The trailing edges of the panels can be connected to one another either directly, or by channel members 9 for collecting dust, &c. in the air stream A.
