Abstract
1418809 Tubular heat exchangers PHILIPS GLOEILAMPENFABRIEKEN NV 14 Feb 1973 [17 Feb 1972] 7222/73 Heading F4S In a vehicle radiator comprising a plurality of flat rectangular tube panels 1 arranged parallel to and spaced apart from one another so that opposite edges of said panels are located respectively in common front and rear planes 2 and 3 of the radiator, air-tight partitions 8 extend between and connect the rear edge of one panel to the front edge of the adjacent panel. Each of the panels 1 comprises a plurality of parallel tubes 4 extending between inlet and outlet headers 5 and 6, and flat metal fins 7 are connected to the tubes in heat conducting relationship, said fins spaced longitudinally of the tubes so as to define air ducts 10 between the fins and tubes. Vertical channelshaped connecting members 11 may be provided at the rear edges of the panels for collecting contaminants from the cooling air stream, each channel-shaped member 11 leading into a downwardly and forwardly inclined outlet channel 12. As shown, the tube panels are obliquely inclined with respect to the cooling air flow direction A, but alternatively they may be arranged parallel to the flow direction (see Fig. 3, not shown). A layer of metal gauze may be arranged as a screen over the front face of each of the tube panels. The thickness L of each panel is at most 25 mm. and the ratio L/dn < 15, where L is the length and dn the hydraulic diameter of each of the air ducts 10 in each panel.
