Abstract

975,221. Plate-type heat-exchangers. GENERAL MOTORS CORPORATION. Sept. 19, 1963 [Oct. 9, 1962], No. 36902/63. Heading F4S. A heat-exchanger comprises a stack of corrugated metal plates, the corrugations of each of the plates having flat apices registering with those of the corrugations of adjacent plates to form passageways (Fig. 4), and a common inlet and outlet for the passageways formed between alternate pairs of plates. fhe plates shown are oval, the corrugations being of similar length and leaving flat sheet portions 32, 34 (Fig. 6), at each end of the plate. Adjacent plates are connected alternately by flanges 52, 54 or 36, 42 such that the inlets and outlets of alternate spaces are respectively similarly positioned, and connected to ducts A, B, A<SP>1</SP>, B<SP>1</SP> respectively, thus providing a common inlet and common outlet for each set of alternate spaces. In an alternative form (Fig. 8, not shown), use of different flanges gives a two-pass heat-exchanger.
