Abstract

1430913 Screw threaded cap VAW LEICHTMETALL GmbH 29 Jan 1974 [29 Jan 1973] 4158/74 Heading B8T [Also in Division B3] A blank for a screwthreaded bottle or like closure cap is formed from sheet aluminium as a cap or bowl in which the margin of the free edge of the side wall 2 is of reduced thickness as compared with that of the remainder of the side wall. The portion 3 of reduced thickness may be thickened towards its periphery and in the finished closure cap it is either rolled over and/or perforated to form a locking ring, which may have weakening portions 10. The cap is provided with a sealing insert on its end face and is sealed to a bottle mouth 13, Fig. 5, by pressing a part of the sidewall 2 against the bottle screw thread. The aluminium sheet from which the cap is made is varnished and the portion 3 is thinned by drawing to about 70-80% of the initial wall thickness, such drawing conditions not damaging the varnish.
