Abstract
1427725 Valves J F EARDLEY Ltd 6 June 1973 [12 June 1972] 27349/72 Heading F2V A flow-control device comprises a first permanent magnet 10, Fig. 1, movable upwardly under the influence of fluid flow between an inlet 18 and an outlet 20, to thereby upwardly repel a second permanent magnet 24. The upward movement of the magnet 24 throttles flow of air from a chamber 28 to vents 34 and thereby increases control signal pressure delivered through a conduit 38. In an alternative embodiment, Fig. 2 (not shown), raising of the second magnet obstructs flow between a pair of spaced coaxial conduits (44, 48) to produce the changes in signal pressure. The first magnet also functions as a non-return valve. The body 16 may be made of glass, e.g. for beer dispensing apparatus. The first magnet is carried by a plunger 12 having peripherally apertured discs at its ends. Alternatively, the first magnet may constitute the plunger or it may be in the form of a sleeve for fluid flow therethrough. The plunger may be such that the fluid merely impinges against it. At least one of the magnets may be biased to its rest position by a spring whereby the device need not be vertically arranged. The second magnet may instead be arranged at right angles to the first magnet and could be mounted for pivotal movement. The device may be used in a liquid measuring and dispensing unit for controlling means for inhibiting the operation of a valve controlling the unit, until a full measure of liquid has been discharged from or supplied to the unit.
