Abstract

Also in Division H2] A switching device for inclusion in a pipe-line for automatically switching off drive motors of a centrifuge or feed pump, for example, and which is sensitive to a change of flow rate comprises a housing having inlet 16 and outlet 17 and a hollow inverted cup-like member 8 mounted on a plunger 13, sealed by a close-fitting diaphragm 10, and resiliently biased by a spring 9 so as to be axially movable by fluid pressure. A switch 5 is carried on an adjusting screw 25 and is operated by the plunger 13 at a predetermined pressure. The relationship between flow rate and fluid pressure is adjustable by turning an outer cylindrical sleeve 20 to vary the effective cross-section of the fluid passage. The interior of member 8 communicates with atmosphere by means of a drilling 27. Connections to the switch are made via a passage 15 and plug 14. In a second embodiment Figs. 3 and 4 (not shown) a butterfly valve (28) controls the cross-section of the flow path and has an external pointer (29) to indicate its setting.
