Abstract

1,026,226. Delivering measured quantities of liquid. BRITISH PETROLEUM CO. Ltd. Oct. 30, 1964 [Nov. 12, 1963], No. 44329/64. Heading B8N. A valve for dispensing a measured quantity of liquid comprises a body 6 having inlet and outlet passages 1, 2 communicating with a measuring recess 2a and a magnetically-actuated valve member 7, 8 movable intherecess and adapted to open or close an outlet port 4a in a member 4 adjustably mounted in the recess. The member 4 is screwed into the body 6 in order to vary the distance between the lowest surface of the inlet and outlet passages 1, 2 and a curved surface 3 of the member 4; the degree of adjustment may be indicated by a scale 10a. In operation with the valve 7 in the closed position shown liquid is fed along passage 1 until it overflows through the outlet passage 2. Upon energization of a solenoid 9, the valve 7 is lifted to open the outlet port 4a and thereby dispense the liquid. A number of dispensing valves may be included in a circuit and the solenoids actuated in sequence by cam-operated switch means. Apart from the magnetic portion 8 of the valve 7, the whole valve can be made from polytetrafluoroethylene.
