Abstract

142,203. Hack, T. H., and Boughton, H. F. Feb. 5, 1919. Gas-pressure sprayers. - Relates to apparatus for washing gas wherein clean or unwashed gas is compressed and caused to spray liquid, the gas to be washed passing through the spray. In the form shown in Fig. 1, superposed rings of tubes B dipping in liquor trays C, or connected directly to supply pipes h', have nozzles at their upper ends, and compressed gas is delivered through nozzles e<1> to spray liquor from the tubes B. The sprays from one ring of tubes B intervene in plan with those from another ring of tubes. Pipes c<1>, c<3>, lead liquor from an upper tray and an annular baffle c<2> to a lower tray. In the form shown in Fig. 3, gas supplied through a pipe E to an annular nozzle e' forms an annular spray with liquor flowing from a tray C to an annular nozzle b<1>; in a modification, the nozzles depend from the tray. In the form shown in Fig. 5. an adjustable valve e<2> is arranged between the pipes E, B to form two annular nozzles. In all cases, the device may be inverted and the liquor and gas nozzles interchanged. A single spray producer, as shown in Figs. 3 and 5, may be arranged in a main. The Provisional Specification states also that the circular series of tubes may be arranged so that the sprays blow towards the centre.
