Abstract

1420371 Altering molecular structures WESTINGHOUSE ELECTRIC CORP 8 Feb 1973 [22 Feb 1972] 6229/73 Heading B3V [Also in Division C7] Magnetic alloys contain 5-35% of Co, up to 3% of an element which improves volume resistivity, and balance Fe, and have a primary recrystallized grain structure with a predominantly (110)[001] texture. Preferred additions are up to 2% Cr, up to 3% Si or up to 1% Si, but V, Al, Ti or Mo are also referred to. The alloy should contain less than 0À005% S. Processing to the desired structure involves hot rolling, preferably at 1000-1100‹ C., annealing, preferably at 600-900‹ C., cold rolling at least once with a reduction of 40-75% in the final stage and finally annealing in the range 800‹ C.-Ac 1 . Intermediate annealing at 700- 900‹ C. may be carried out between cold rolling steps, or the initial cold rolling steps may in fact be warm-working at 200-300‹ C. One at least of the anneals may use a decarburizing atmosphere.
