Abstract

1420003 Nestable containers SWEETHEART PLASTICS Ltd 8 March 1973 [20 March 1972] 11306/73 Heading B8D The lowermost portion 24 of an external screwthread 22 around the upper portion 14 of a thin-walled, nestable one-piece plastics container is engageable with the rim 18 of a like container to support the containers in non- jamming nested relationship. The radial extremity of the thread increases from the rim downwards and lies on a cylinder to enhance stability of a nested stack. The thread also has a saw-tooth configuration to improve rim/ thread engagement. The rim 18 provides a sealing seat for the gasket of a metal cap L adapted to be screwed on to the upper portion. In another embodiment, Figs. 3 and 4 (not shown), the external thread is in the form of a multi-start thread 52-58 so that the lower portions 60 thereof provide four circumferentially-spaced supports adapted to engage the flush rim 48 of a like container. The rim may be flared or rolled over so long as its radial extent does not interfere with the threading-on of the cap. The container may be pressure or vacuumformed from sheet or blow- or injectionmoulded.
